Miss Carroll - Class Teacher
Welcome to Dickens class page. We are a fantastic group of year five pupils who are determined to be the best we can be!
On this page you can see all of our brilliant achievements and the activities that we complete throughout the year.
Fantastic first 3 days!
We have had a great first three days back. The children have already earned Dojo points for a range of things including: showing resilience, our Emerald power, in PE when it became physically hard and Sapphire for responsibility, as the whole class remembered their PE kits.
The class look extremely smart in our new school uniform although we have experienced some challenges with the new ties. I think that is everyone's homework; including mine!
During this term we are going to be learning about The Victorians and what it was like to live in Carlisle during this time. This will include a visit to Tullie House to find out more! In Science we are going to be learning about forces. In Art we will be finding out about an artist called William Morris. This is just a short introduction to the first 7 weeks of learning. Keep coming back to check our class page to find out more!
In maths we have been learning to read and write numbers up to 1000000. We have been learning to represent numbers in different ways to show we understand the place value of each digit in a number.
We have been examining household goods from the Victorian times to find out more about how they lived. We couldn't believe how heavy their irons were! Miss Carroll said she was pleased they are not that heavy now!
We are working very in hard in music to learn songs to perform at The Cumbria Education Trust show to be held at the Theatre on the Lake, Keswick.
Some of us have used our Emerald power of learning to perform a solo! Keep your eyes open for updates on our progress.
Homework will be sent home on a Friday and must be returned to school the following Thursday. Homework consists of spellings, mental maths, English, Maths (topic work occasionally). Spellings will be tested on a Thursday and mental maths on a Friday.
Homework club is being run for your children to attend to for help and support.
