Over the next few weeks Donaldson Class will be learning about ‘Plants and Flowers’.
This unit is part of the Early Years programme of the International Primary Curriculum.
Our Entry Point
For our Entry Point the children brought in a plant or flower.
We looked closely at the similarities and differences and talked about what we knew about them.
We then did some observational drawings/paintings of our flowers and went for a walk around the school to see if they could find some plants or flowers the same as theirs.
Take a look at our photos.
As part of our exit point at the end of this topic children will be visiting ‘Bank Mill Visitors Centre’ on the 6th April 2017. More information about this trip will be sent home in the next few days.
At the end of our Entry Point week. We had a competition for the best Observational drawing, flower painting and real life plant/flower brought in from home. Mrs Lloyd came to judge.

Exit Point - Bankmill Visitor Centre
I am so pleased to say what a well behaved class of children we have. Well done to all of you Donaldson Class!
We had a wonderful day at Bankmill Visitor Centre to end our topic Plants and Flowers.
The children planted their own Sunflower and a vegetable seed. We have brought them back to class and are going to have a competition to see which sunflower will grow the tallest.
They learned about some of the rescue animals they are taking care of.
Had fun playing on the adventure park and walk around the nature reserve.
We then stopped for lunch and then continued our learning by visiting the Jurassic world, where the children had to find the pots of jewels and hunt for buried treasure.

Decorate a boiled egg competition.
Well done to all who took part in our whole school, decorate an egg competition. There were some amazing decorated eggs.
The winner for Donaldson Class was Seth Picken, well done Seth! 😊
Term 6 Treasure
Our last IPC topic of the Nursery year is 'Treasure.'
The unit started with a very exciting entry point when children came dressed as pirates in search for treasure. To create a memory of this special Entry Point, children took a photo of each other to display in the classroom.
Reading, phonics and writing remain a key priority for us this term, as we continue to drive progress in these areas. A huge thank you for supporting your child with their reading and homework at home; I am delighted that most children are completing their homework and reading at home each night. Please find below some useful links to support your child with their learning at home.
