On 19th September 2024, Cumbria Education Trust hosted its second “Shaping Our Future” conference at The Halston in Carlisle, attracting over 170 educational leaders, local authorities, and industry experts. This engaging event featured a range of high-profile keynote speakers, including Sir Ian Bauckham, Chief Regulator at Ofqual, and Leora Cruddas, founding Chief Executive of the Confederation of School Trusts, who provided valuable insights into the future of education and the challenges we face.

The evening began with an inspiring performance by Workington Academy’s Theatre group, who entertained attendees with a 30-minute medley of songs, showcasing their remarkable talent and confidence. The Yewdale Primary School Choir also performed, further enhancing the event’s celebratory atmosphere.

Throughout the conference, participants collaborated and shared strategies to improve educational outcomes across Cumbria. The event emphasised the importance of networking, with opportunities for attendees to engage in meaningful conversations about the future of education.

Lorrayne Hughes OBE, Chief Executive at Cumbria Education Trust, expressed her gratitude to all who contributed to the conference’s success. “Seeing leaders and educators from all corners of Cumbria come together for an evening of collaboration and discussion was fantastic to witness,” she said.
